What are the essential ingredients for innovation, for startups and accelerators? Can design thinking help create more meaningful solutions, products and services in startup envrionments? Many times design is left for the later phases of the start-up process, once strategy and vision is complete, as an implementation discipline. How could we integrate design more effecitvely in the innovation and technology processes – to reach better results and success?
Practically – we will apply the newly gained methods in this workshop to envision new opportunities and solutions, and applying them to the real-life scenario of student housing. Each year 60,000 students arrive in Cluj, looking for housing. How could design + technology envision new solutions for this context? Join us for an inspiring journey on the role of design, and discover together new opportunities with a closer collaboration between design and technology.

Often, the nature of human actions and interactions rise some apparently simple questions in design: how, what way, how much. Design Thinking brings professional on a cognitive and creative path, starting from the problem understanding stage and ending with a solution finding phase, alongside this well-known user-centered design framework. We invite you on a four hours trip, among questions waiting to be raised and answers to be given in our workshop .
What involvement should we expect on behalf of user experience, in the early empathizing stage or in the final testing stage, while applying Design Thinking method? Is there always available a criteria-based evaluation of user needs? Or should we rather take a lenient glimpse on user needs and experiences relation? Since user experience is a part of reality, can we understand it by discovering or changing the mindset which exists behind, interact with it trough our skill-set, and mediate its representation by digital toolset we, as creatives, have at our disposal?
We will explore, guided by our guest experience sharing, different ways of translating from abstract ideas to immediate material, in low-tech and especially high-tech level of prototyping, highlighting on each, limits and opportunities.
The workshop will offer the occasion to apply principles , methodologies of Design Thinking addressing urban, social or cultural context — specially on <> as a social activity with many design related concerns — , in the challenging perspective of Cultural Capital of Europe for 2021. Graphic, ambient or product design perspectives can be involved in offering the appropriate cultural designed product the context asks for?

Our shared heritage post ’89 stays with the many concrete buildings where many of us have grown and still live. Moving from centralized systems (entire building or neighborhoods) for heat, electric or many other aspects – to personal apartment measurements, to floor-based corridor lighting, and individual family heating makes for one of the most interesting experience changes. How can we use Design Methods to identify ways on improving life in these buildings? Come for a hands-on experience on design methods!
