The first meeting of the initiative-group of Romanian Design Council was held at Impact Hub Bucharest, on April 11-12, 2016. The participants were from a variety of sectors: academia (UAD Cluj, UNArte, Mincu Architecture), professional (existing successful initiatives: Romanian Design Week / the Institute, Node Maker Space, Driven Design, Studio Kort and others) and government (office of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education). We were grateful to have the Minister of Education, Mr Adrian Curaj as keynote speaker.
Education + Innovation + Community + Policy-making – is the proposal for integrating design at the community and national level, in order to drive design as long-term strategic growth for Romania. Connecting successful internal critical players, and through external partnerships with Design Council (UK), Danish Design Center (and others), we intend to bring know-how and methodologies that support design at a strategic level, in maximizing impact and ROI in business, social and innovation processes. Internally, we will create effective means of integrating design between professionals, public, government and businesses. We will help revive the education of designers. At governmental level, we will propose legislation to integrate design in business and administration, and increase the value of products and services in Romania.
